Help for Proteva

Nothing is stored on our servers, so most issues are on the Mac in front of you. Check the questions below, or email us.

I forgot my master password

There is no password reset. The master password is the only way into the vault. If it is forgotten, the vault cannot be recovered. Keep an encrypted .vaultnotes backup somewhere safe, and restore it from the Vault menu if you still have that file.

How do I import logins from Notes?

Choose Import from Notes (or press ⌘I while you are on Logins). Paste or drop the text, review the table, then import the rows you want. Label fields when you can (username:, password:).

How do files work?

Select Files, then import. Proteva encrypts a copy inside the vault. After a successful import you can delete the original. Photos and video show in the inspector. A decrypted file leaves the app only when you choose Save a copy.

How do I switch light and dark?

Open Proteva → Settings (⌘,) or View → Appearance. Choose System, Light, or Dark. The choice stays after you quit.

Can I delete every login at once?

Yes. First use Vault → Export Encrypted Backup… so you can restore later. Then Vault → Delete All Logins…. Files stay. Restore replaces the whole vault with the backup you saved.

What should I send in a support email?

Your macOS version and what you were trying to do. Never send your master password, a CSV export, or the contents of the vault.

Still stuck?

macOS 14 or later. The Mac App Store build is sandboxed and does not use the network.
